How to Use Your Gas Tandoor – First-Time Setup & Safety Guide

To help you get the best performance from your new gas tandoor, we’ve created this simple, step-by-step user guide. Whether it’s your first tandoor or your fifth, following these instructions ensures safety, longevity, and perfect cooking every time.

  • Place the tandoor on a flat, stable, non-flammable surface.
  • Maintain 2 feet (60 cm) of open space on all sides for ventilation.
  • Lock the heavy-duty wheels to prevent movement.
  • Ensure the gas inlet faces the cylinder for a kink-free hose path.
  • Check the ½" BSP gas inlet and regulator washer for any damage.
  • Connect a low-pressure LPG regulator (28–30 mbar).
  • Use only an ISI-approved LPG hose (not more than 1.5 m long).
  • Secure hose clamps tightly.
  • Open the cylinder valve slightly and apply soapy water on all joints — if bubbles form, there’s a leak. Tighten immediately.

This step helps set the insulation and removes any initial odours. Do not cook food during curing. A light smell or steam is normal.

For enhanced flavor and surface protection, mix:

  • 2 tbsp grated jaggery (gur)
  • ½ cup fresh spinach purée (palak saag)
  • A little water to make a paste

Apply to warm (not hot) clay wall, dry 5 mins, then relight burner on low for 5 mins to set.

  • Preheat the tandoor on high flame for 15 minutes (~350°C).
  • Lightly oil the skewers or naan pads.
  • Use long hooks and heat-resistant gloves.
  • Start cooking delicious kebabs, naan, roti, or tikkas!
  • Always operate outdoors or under a proper exhaust hood.
  • Keep a Class B fire extinguisher nearby.
  • Let unit cool below 100°C before disconnecting gas.
  • Clean with soft cloth — avoid abrasive cleaners.
  • Inspect hose and regulator monthly; replace every 2 years or if worn out.
